It's always a good day when you get to spend it in the company of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.  The day is made even better when the animals you are hanging with are wonderfully, deserving rescue pets who are waiting for their Forever Homes.  I headed over to
Dog Patch Pet & Feed in Naperville, IL with friend and Animal Wrangler Extraordinaire, Monica Hernandez, to photograph some of their adoptable pets.  Dog Patch has been a local store and part of the Naperville community since 1972 and was one of the only places to get pet food and supplies when my family moved to Naperville in 1974.  One of my sister's boyfriends even surprised her in 1976 with a little sheltie puppy that he bought at DogPatch.  We named her Pasha and she became my true, childhood dog from the time I was eight until I was twenty-four.  Of course, as the amazingly-enlightened adult that I am today, I would say, "Don't every buy your dog from a pet store!" But do I regret Pasha?  Never!

Still, it was such a thrill to see the changes that took place at DogPatch a few years ago under a new owner, Greg.  I can't say it better myself so I took  this straight from the DogPatch Pet & Feed website: "In December of 2011 Greg announced that Dog Patch will stop selling breeder puppies and kittens in order to create a new model for pet stores. Now Dog Patch fosters and finds forever homes for rescued dogs and cats from all over Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin."

I love being not only being able to support a local business but a business that practices something I so passionately believe in! Without further ado  (whatever 'ado' is), here are some of the lovely babies who are looking for their Forever Families.  Stop in today and meet your new friend!

Cosmo--sweet boy who has been waiting the longest. He is about 17 inches tall and weighs 25-30 pounds. Looks to be some terrier/hound mix.  Reminded me a lot of a basenji.
